Look a working terrier in the eye with this close head study of a border terrier, wiry, unglamorous and entirely unbothered by you.
There is no styling here and nothing pretty about him, which is the whole point. The crop is tight enough that the head fills the frame — one ear folded over, the harsh grizzle coat catching low side light along the muzzle and brow, whiskers picked out white against the shadow. The eyes are the thing: dark, level and completely steady, looking straight out of the picture rather than off to one side. Behind him the long grass has gone to warm amber and ochre and dissolved away entirely, so there is nothing to look at but the dog. From across a room it reads as a warm block of colour with a small dark face in it; up close the coat comes apart into individual wiry hairs, which is where a terrier's character actually lives. Well suited to boot rooms, hallways, kitchens and studies, and to country, farmhouse and rustic interiors.
Printed on premium 200 gsm semi-gloss paper, which keeps the fine wiry hairs of the coat separate rather than letting them sink into a mass, and holds the warm amber behind him rich instead of muddy.
