The leaves are built in flat opaque colour with the brush marks left visible in them, dark enough to read almost black along the edges, and the berries sit in small hard dabs of vermilion that catch against all that green. There is nothing else in the frame. That plainness is what keeps it clear of greetings-card territory, and it is why the print still works hung beside an ordinary botanical once the decorations are down.
