An Atlantic puffin standing on a lichened cliff ledge, the sea blurred far below — one of the few Scottish birds people go looking for by name.
The bird stands low and to the left, side-on with its head turned just enough to show the whole bill: the red outer plate, the blue-grey inner one, the small yellow rosette at the corner of the mouth. Beneath it the rock is pale grey stone crusted with orange and yellow lichen, and everything beyond falls away into soft blue-green — sea, cliff and haze all reduced to colour so nothing competes with the bird. The open space to the right is what makes it work; it gives the picture room to breathe and keeps the puffin the only thing in sharp focus. Well suited to hallways, kitchens, bathrooms, children's rooms and studies, and to coastal, cottage or Scandinavian interiors.
Printed on premium 200 gsm semi-gloss paper, which holds the hard reds and oranges of the bill and lichen against the cool blurred background without either side losing its edge.
