Catch a working dog at full tilt in this springer spaniel coming through the shallows, spray thrown wide from both front paws and ears flying.
Everything else in the collection is still — this one is not. The dog is coming straight at you through a few inches of reed-fringed water, front legs already out and reaching, and the whole surface has come up with him: a broken sheet of spray held sharp against the dark water behind. The coat is liver and white, soaked flat along the shoulders and still flagged out at the ears. Behind him the reeds and the far bank drop away into soft green, so nothing competes with the movement. From a distance it reads as one bright burst of water with a dog in the middle of it; up close you can pick out individual droplets suspended above the surface. Well suited to boot rooms, hallways, kitchens and studies, and to country, farmhouse and rural interiors.
Printed on premium 200 gsm semi-gloss paper, which is what holds the white of the spray bright against the dark water without either end losing its detail — the hardest thing to ask of a paper, and the reason this image needs semi-gloss rather than matt.
