Bring the weather indoors with this storm wave bursting over a stone sea wall, spray thrown far higher than the coping.
This is a working sea wall rather than a picturesque harbour — coursed sandstone with a heavy rounded coping, the kind built along Scottish promenades for exactly this job, and still doing it. Wet flagstones fill the foreground, the wall runs away on the diagonal, and where it meets the water a swell has detonated into a plume that fills half the sky. Beyond it the sea is dark green and disorderly, an island sits low on the horizon under heavy cloud, and there is no colour warmer than the wet stone. The wall is the only still thing in the frame, and the spray gives you the scale — it is well above head height. That is what makes this a picture about living with a coast rather than visiting one. Well suited to hallways, living rooms, studies and stairwells, and to modern, coastal or industrial interiors.
Printed on premium 200 gsm semi-gloss paper, which holds the separation inside the white of the spray instead of letting it blow out, and keeps the storm cloud dark without going muddy.
