Bring the stillness of a Highland winter to a wall with this frozen burn print, a snow-filled glen with dark water winding through it.
A burn is a Scottish hill stream, and in hard frost it freezes from the margins inward, so the open water narrows to a dark channel running down the middle of a white bed — which is exactly what is shown here. A lone Scots pine stands right of centre, wind-shaped and flat-crowned the way old ones grow, with an older stand of them massed along the far bank. The burn enters at the bottom left and curves twice before it disappears, and a snow-covered hill closes the top of the frame. The pull is that the water is the only dark thing in the picture, so it reads as a path rather than a river. Well suited to living rooms, hallways, stairwells and home offices, and to traditional, country, Scandinavian or winter interiors.
Printed on premium 200 gsm semi-gloss paper, which holds the shadow detail in the black water and the faint blue in the snow shadows — the two places a snow picture usually loses.
