Set one bright white dog against a near-black moor with this westie standing alert on wet heather, the only light in the whole frame.
It has been raining and it hasn't finished. The heather is soaked down to deep umber and slate, the ground shines where the water sits in it, and above the hill the cloud has broken just enough to let a weak, low sun through. Standing in the middle of all that, small and square and completely unbothered, is a west highland white terrier — head up, ears pricked, coat almost luminous against the dark. The paint is laid on thickly through the heather and the sky, dragged and broken so the ground has real texture, while the dog is worked more carefully and reads clean and solid. From across a room it is simply a white shape burning out of a dark picture, which is what makes it hold a wall from a distance; up close the moor comes apart into loaded strokes of umber, olive and grey. Well suited to hallways, living rooms, studies and stairwells, and to country, traditional or darker modern interiors.
Printed on premium 200 gsm semi-gloss paper, which is doing the hardest job on any print in the range — holding the white of the coat bright without letting it blow out, while keeping enough detail alive in the near-black heather that it reads as ground rather than a hole.
